MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon and Spartans Athletics Director Mark Hollis talk with their counterparts at the University of Michigan – U of M President Mary Sue Coleman and Wolverines Athletic Director David Brandon.
The leaders of MSU and U of M talk about their collaborative partnership with Wayne State University in the University Research Corridor and about how that cooperative spirit is also growing in the economic engine that is the schools’ athletic programs. And they comment on the collegiality and spirit of cooperation that exists among the Big Ten institutions despite the fierce competition that most of us see on the fields and courts around the conference.
They reflect on the current landscape in the NCAA and discuss the state and future of intercollegiate athletics and the role athletics play at world-class research universities. Great academic integrity in all they do is crucial, they agree, and is what distinguishes big time college athletics from anything else like it in the world.
The schools’ leaders welcome Nebraska to the Big Ten and talk about the high-quality experience they strive to create for their students, student-athletes, alumni, donors, and anyone who visits their campuses.
