Michigan Governor Rick Snyder delivered the commencement address at Michigan State University‘s December 15, 2012 graduation ceremonies.

“It’s a great honor to become an honorary Spartan today,” Snyder says. “Many people didn’t think that would happen in my lifetime.”

Snyder tells the MSU graduates that they should be proud to be graduating from “a special place and world-class asset that every Michigander should be proud of.”

Snyder quips that he’s talked enough about public policy this week and that his preference is to share with the graduates some guiding principles that have made a difference in his life.

“Build on your passions and build a vision for your career,” advises Snyder. “Manage risk, too, don’t avoid it.”

Snyder advises the graduates to treat everyone they encounter and interact with in their careers as if they’re customers. And he advises the graduates to seek out mentors and to not lose touch with family and friends.

Governor Snyder asks the graduates to stay in Michigan and says he will focus on more and better jobs for Michigan and continue to enhance quality of life in Michigan in order to keep our future and our best and brightest in the state.

“Please stay and let us know what we can do to keep you here,” concludes Gov. Snyder “Go Green!”
