MSU alumna Jody Lamb is author of “Easter Ann Peters Operation Cool,” in which Lamb sensitively handles the complicated dynamic that is the alcoholic mother.

Easter Ann Peters’ Operation Cool” (Scribe, 2012) is about a 12-year-old, socially awkward, straight-A student whose plan — “Operation Cool” — is to reinvent herself.

Lamb describes why and how she’s on a mission to help kids with alcoholic family members – and how that mission was sparked at the MSU library in fall 2004, which led to a quarter-life crisis in 2009 that changed her life and helped her figure out how she could help.

She credits her journalism professors at MSU for helping her hone her writing skills and her ability to adapt and be persistent. And she says that her background in public relations played a key role in helping her get the book published after 30 rejections from agents and editors who wanted her to write about “wizards and vampires.”
