“I love what I do, and I’ve always had a passion for golf,” MSU women’s golf coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll tells Michigan State University President Lou Anna K. Simon and Spartans Athletic Director Mark Hollis on MSU Today. “Then when I came to Michigan State I fell in love with the school.”
Stacy says she recruits players for MSU on “character, grades, and talent. And believe it or not, we really feel that talent is last because we know that if we have a great character person who is meant to be a Spartan, they’re going to be successful.”
Stacy says her program has always recruited competitive kids who want to win and who feel MSU is the best place for them to be.
“There’s a lot of feeling of entitlement with today’s kids, so we’re constantly reminding them how fortunate they are to be student-athletes at Michigan State. We try to knock that entitlement feeling – if they have it – out of them as soon as they arrive in East Lansing.”
