“One of the things we pride ourselves on at Michigan State University is the way our faculty, staff and students are engaged in the community and really use their skills in a variety of ways to really make a difference,” says MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon. “Sue Petrisin is an extraordinary leader for Kiwanis and is the first woman elected to serve as president of Kiwanis International—or any of the largest service organizations in the world.”
Petrisin tells President Simon and Spartans Athletic Director Mark Hollis that her experience with Kiwanis has been lifelong. “I have an opportunity to make a difference, and it has taught me a lot about who I am and how I can impact the future and the people I work with.”
Sue says that her experience at MSU and Kiwanis are similar.
“Our MSUAA and Kiwanis staffs believe that we’re here for the rest of the world,” Petrisin says. “As Spartans we’re not just concerned about ourselves; we think globally and make a difference in the world today, tomorrow, and in the future.”
Petrisin says her role as Kiwanis president will be to help provide overall direction for the organization and big-picture strategy assistance for the local organizations.
