Michigan State University’s golf coaches visit with Michigan State University President Lou Anna K. Simon and Russ White on MSU Today. Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll coaches the Spartan women, and Casey Lubahn coaches the Spartan men.
They talk about the exciting new team facilities coming to Forest Akers in January and talk about how the players they recruit have changed over the years. The new facility will allow the Spartans to get more of the best Midwest golfers who might otherwise attend a southern school.
“They want opportunity, information and knowledge,” says Lubahn. “Michigan State is in quite a cycle right now where they feel like this is a hot spot for them.”
The family atmosphere in Spartan Athletics is authentic and rare.
“When we talk about Spartan Family, we are truly a family, and I don’t think it’s something that we need to talk about because we want the recruits to feel that when they’re here on their visits,” says Slobodnik-Stoll.
Slobodnik-Stoll credits the Smith Center as a place “that has opened the doors to the student-athletes being together and crossing sport boundaries.”
Both coaches talk about the importance of academic success to their players. Both golf teams regularly have some of the highest team GPAs in all of Spartans Athletics.
